Etsy takes about 14.6% of a typical UK order once the transaction fee, payment processing, the regulatory operating fee and VAT on those fees are all counted. On a £25 item with £3.50 postage, that is £4.18 of £28.50 before you deduct a penny of your own costs.
The calculator below shows every charge Etsy applies to a UK sale, in pounds, in the order they are taken. All rates were checked against Etsy’s own fee pages on 6 November 2026. Nothing is rounded in the working; only the final figures are.

What Etsy charges a UK seller in 2026
Etsy applies seven separate charges to a UK sale. Only two of them are shown on the order page, which is why sellers are routinely surprised by the total.
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | £0.15 ($0.20) | Each listing, renewed every four months |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price plus postage plus gift wrap |
| Payment processing | 4% + £0.20 | Item price plus postage plus gift wrap |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0.48% | Item price plus postage plus gift wrap |
| Offsite Ads | 15%, or 12% above $10,000 | Order total, capped at $100 per order |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% | The sale, when listing and payment currencies differ |
| VAT on Etsy's fees | 20% | All of the fees above, unless your VAT number is on file |
The listing fee is charged in US dollars, so the pound figure moves slightly with the exchange rate. The other rates are fixed percentages.
Why the regulatory operating fee is 0.48% and not 0.32%
Etsy raised the UK regulatory operating fee from 0.32% to 0.48% on 22 June 2026. A large number of fee calculators still show the old 0.32%, which makes their results look better than the truth by roughly 5 pence on a £30 order — enough to matter when you are pricing a whole catalogue.
This calculator uses 0.48%, and the page will be updated again if the rate changes. The date at the top of the calculator is the date every rate was last checked against Etsy's own pages.
VAT on fees — the charge most sellers miss
Etsy charges 20% VAT on its own fees, not on your product. If you have not given Etsy a VAT number, that VAT is added on top of every fee, so the real cost of selling is about 20% higher than the headline percentages suggest.
If you are VAT registered and have added your number to Etsy, Etsy does not add that VAT — which is why the calculator has a separate tick box for it. Even then, the VAT you charge your customers is still yours to account for; this box only covers VAT on Etsy's fees.
Worked example: a £25 item with £3.50 postage
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Order total (item + postage) | £28.50 |
| Listing fee | −£0.15 |
| Transaction fee (6.5%) | −£1.85 |
| Payment processing (4% + £0.20) | −£1.34 |
| Regulatory operating fee (0.48%) | −£0.14 |
| VAT on those fees (20%) | −£0.70 |
| Total Etsy fees | £4.18 (14.6% of the order) |
| You keep, before your own costs | £24.32 |
Deduct £6 of goods and £3 of postage and the order leaves £15.32 of profit, a 53.8% margin. Change the numbers in the calculator above to see your own figures.
Questions UK sellers ask
How much does Etsy take from a UK sale?
Etsy takes roughly 14% to 16% of a typical UK order: 6.5% transaction fee, 4% plus £0.20 payment processing, 0.48% regulatory operating fee, plus 20% VAT on all of those if no VAT number is on file. Offsite Ads can add another 12% to 15% on orders that arrive through an ad.
Is the listing fee charged in pounds?
No. Etsy charges the listing fee in US dollars, $0.20, which is about 15 pence. It is charged again every time an item sells and every four months while a listing stays active.
Do I pay VAT on Etsy fees if I am not VAT registered?
Yes. Etsy adds 20% VAT to its own fees unless you have given it a valid VAT number, and being below the £90,000 registration threshold does not exempt you from that charge. It is VAT on Etsy's service, not on your goods.
Does the regulatory operating fee apply in the UK?
Yes. The UK rate is 0.48% of the order total, raised from 0.32% on 22 June 2026. It is charged on the item price, postage and gift wrap, in the same way as the transaction fee.
Do I have to pay Offsite Ads?
You pay it only on orders that arrive through an Etsy offsite ad, at 15% for shops that have sold less than $10,000 in the past 365 days and 12% above that. Shops above $10,000 cannot opt out. The charge is capped at $100 per order.
How do I work out what to charge to hit a target profit?
Switch the calculator to "Work out price" and enter the profit you want from the order. It solves for the item price, keeping your postage and costs as entered. This is the reverse of the usual calculation and avoids the common mistake of adding a flat percentage on top of a price that Etsy has already taken a share of.
Where these rates come from
Every rate on this page was taken from Etsy's published fee documentation for UK sellers and checked on 6 November 2026. The two pages used are Etsy's UK seller page and Etsy's help centre article on fees and taxes. If a rate changes, this page and the calculator are updated together, and the verification date at the top of the calculator changes with them.
Running a US shop instead? The Etsy US calculator uses the 3% + $0.25 processing rate and models sales tax on both fee bases.
